What is a Midwfe?

A Certified Nurse Midwife has completed a master degree in nursing with a focus in midwifery and women’s health. CNMs are accredited by a state and national organization to provide care to women in pregnancy and throughout their lifetime. Midwives are experts in normal birth, providing care for birthing persons both in the home and hospital setting.  CNMs can prescribe your medications, see you through your birthing process including delivering your baby, suturing lacerations ( if needed) and discharging you home (if in the hospital setting) after your postpartum stay. CNMs and MDs work together as a team in the hospital setting, constantly communicating with each other, so if your birth requires an intervention such as a cesarean section, the doctors are there to provide you with care.
